The Association of Resident Doctors, Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (ARD-KWASUTH), has commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving and paying the 2024 accoutrement allowance to resident doctors in the state recently approved.
This is contained in a statement by the association’s president, Dr Abdulfatah Abdulazeez, on Thursday in Ilorin.
Abdulazeez said that the governor also approved an upward review of House Officers’ remuneration to reflect current realities and improve welfare within the teaching hospital environment, for young medical officers statewide.
According to him, the interventions have enhanced the hospital’s capacity to recruit House Officers, bridge manpower gaps, reduce workload pressures, and improve overall service delivery to patients across Kwara State hospitals.
He said that in recognition of those gestures, AbdulRazaq was conferred with an Award of Excellence by the Association of Resident Doctors, KWASUTH, for outstanding support to medical training programmes.
Abdulazeez noted that as 2026 began; many doctors were preparing for professional examinations, clinical updates, and research activities including proposal development and dissertation writing to advance skills, knowledge and patient care.
The ARD-KWASUTH president recalled that in 2025, Kwara became the first state in the federation to receive the Medical Residency Training Fund supporting resident doctors’ education, exposure, and specialist development nationwide.
He expressed hope that the governor would sustain the record by approving payment of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund and the 2025 accoutrement allowance for eligible doctors promptly and fully.
He said such support would facilitate training, academic development and professional advancement of members, ultimately translating into improved healthcare delivery and better patient outcomes for people of Kwara State, Nigeria, overall.
