The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening standard cleaning and infection prevention and control procedures to maintain a hygienic hospital environment.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Bola Ahmed, stated this on Saturday in Ilorin during a workshop organized by the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) in collaboration with the Environmental Department.
Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Chief Medical Director, Dr Ismail Obalowu, explained that the training was organized for hospital cleaners to enhance their skills in standard cleaning and infection prevention and control practices.
He charged the cleaners to strictly adhere to established cleaning protocols to prevent avoidable health risks and ensure a safe environment within the hospital.
The CMD assured participants of the management’s continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting a clean, safe and hygienic healthcare facility.
In her presentation, a nurse with the IPCT, Mrs Elizabeth Alo, educated participants on proper solution-mixing procedures and standard cleaning techniques.
She emphasized the importance of personal hygiene in preventing the spread of infections, advising the cleaners to seek clarification whenever they were uncertain about procedures.
According to her, the training would enhance the effectiveness of cleaners and contribute significantly to patient safety.
She reiterated that well-trained cleaners play a vital role in creating a safer environment for patients, staff and visitors.
