The Kwara State Government on Monday organized a nine-day Integrated Training Programme for 55 newly recruited health workers in Omuaran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
The exercise represents the second batch of training for newly recruited health workers.
It would be recalled that 100 healthcare workers, including nurses and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), were successfully trained in the first batch in 2025.
Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, described the programme as a capacity-building initiative aimed at improving the quality of healthcare across the state’s primary health facilities.
She said the objective of the training was to equip health workers with the necessary skills and competencies to deliver effective, safe, timely and equitable healthcare services.
Elelu reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector, noting that quality healthcare delivery could only be achieved through a well-trained and motivated workforce.
“The state government will continue to invest in the training and equipping of health workers to ensure that residents of Kwara have access to free and quality healthcare,” she said.
The agency’s Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mr Ajide Olayioye, sensitized the healthcare workers on civil service rules and guidelines to aid them in the effective discharge of their duties.
He explained the penalties associated with misconduct and urged the health workers to take their new responsibilities seriously.
One of the facilitators, Mrs Oluwabunmi Ayedun of March Health Care Initiative, Abuja, commended the state government for prioritizing the primary healthcare system.
She emphasized the importance of having quality health workers, noting that there was no substitute for quality healthcare.
