The Kwara Government, in collaboration with the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving nutrition outcomes across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, made the pledge on Monday while declaring open the ANRiN Sustainability Workshop in Ilorin.
El-Imam commended the state government for its investment in primary healthcare and nutrition programmes and expressed hope for increased government involvement to deliver better health outcomes for women, children and other vulnerable groups.
She emphasized the need to build on the progress recorded under the ANRiN programme, calling for deeper collaboration, stronger coordination and sustained innovation as the state prepares to transition into ANRiN 2.0.
The commissioner said the workshop provided an opportunity to review the successes of ANRiN 1.0, reflect on lessons learnt and refine strategies for improved implementation in the next phase.
According to her, participants examined existing approaches to enhancing financial allocation for nutrition activities, including the Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action on Nutrition (MSPAN), the work of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition and nutrition budget tagging.
El-Imam noted that technical presentations highlighted gains recorded through the delivery of the basic package of nutrition services via non-state actors, including achievements in nutrition-sensitive antenatal care across selected primary healthcare centres.
