Khalifa Isyaka Rabi’u University (KHAIRUN) in Kano says it is set to broaden its academic offerings in 2025 with the introduction of new faculties and programs, notably in Medicine and Law.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rashid Garba, in an exclusive interview with SolaceBase, said the expansion aims to enhance educational opportunities and address societal needs.
In 2024, KHAIRUN established 16 departments across four faculties, inaugurated the University Senate, and commenced full academic activities. The university recruited 10 seasoned professors, some serving as deans, and towards the year’s end, established the Faculty of Law with a distinguished professor as its pioneer dean.
KHAIRUN distinguishes itself by integrating entrepreneurship into its curriculum at multiple levels. Students engage in entrepreneurship courses from their first year, with advanced courses in subsequent years, culminating in a final-year program that involves significant industry engagement. Additionally, entrepreneurship is tailored to individual disciplines, ensuring relevance across fields.
The university also emphasizes moral education, requiring courses in morality and ethics over four semesters. These courses focus on personal relationships with God, parents, spouses, and society, underscoring the belief that education is incomplete without good character.
Looking ahead to 2025
KHAIRUN plans to consolidate its achievements by maintaining high moral standards and strengthening its academic programs. The introduction of the Faculties of Medicine and Law reflects the university’s commitment to addressing critical societal needs and providing comprehensive education to its students.
The newly introduced programs in Law and Medicine have highlighted KHAIRUN’s commitment to expanding academic opportunities and addressing societal needs.
