Dr Pokop Bupwatda, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), says the hospital’s annual staff tournament aims to promote unity and cordial relations among employees.
Bupwatda said this on Friday in Jos while declaring open the 2026 JUTH CMD’s Annual Staff Tournament (JUCAST).
He said the tournament was organised to break down barriers among professional groups and foster harmonious working relationships within the hospital.
According to him, sports bring people together and give staff an opportunity to exercise and maintain healthy lifestyles.
The CMD said that although the tournament was competitive, participants were expected to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.
He said staff would be selected from the tournament to participate in the Federal Civil Service Games.
He added that trophies and cash prizes would be presented to the winners at JUTH’s 2026 end-of-year get-together.
Earlier, Mr Samuel Iyanro, Chairman of the Tournament Committee, commended the hospital management for organising the tournament.
Iyanro said the competition would promote friendship and cordiality, with staff from different departments and professional groups taking part.
He said the initiative would also encourage healthy living, particularly as many people had adopted sedentary lifestyles.
He assured participants that the committee would ensure the rules were strictly followed and fairness maintained throughout the competition.
The chairman urged staff to participate actively.
The tournament features indoor and outdoor games, including badminton, chess, Ludo, Whot, Scrabble, volleyball, football and table tennis.
