In a significant move to improve healthcare delivery in Adamawa State and the North-East region, the Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Adamawa State Government to upgrade Cottage Hospital Hong and General Hospital Mubi to Federal Medical Centres.
The agreement, signed during a formal ceremony, involved key stakeholders from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as well as the Adamawa State Government.
Representing the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, the Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom, described the initiative as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to expand access to quality healthcare.
“This strategic initiative aims to enhance healthcare services for the people of Mubi, Hong, the North-East region, and even neighboring countries,” Prof. Pate stated in a release by Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Alaba Balogun.
The conversion of these hospitals to federal institutions will improve healthcare quality, safety, and accessibility in the region.
Prof. Pate highlighted that this aligns with the Federal Ministry’s mission to ensure nationwide access to top-tier healthcare services.
Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, commended the Federal Government’s foresight in prioritizing healthcare upgrades, noting the alignment with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s vision for a transformed health sector.
“This is about saving lives and providing quality healthcare for Adamawa and beyond,” she remarked.
State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, described the development as a game-changer for the state’s healthcare delivery system.
The upgraded facilities are expected to address health challenges in the North-East, contributing to Nigeria’s goals of universal health coverage and sustainable development.
