The Federal Government on Thursday, distributed farm inputs and animal feeds to livestock  farmers in the FCT, to enhance animal feed and food Security.

Speaking at the event in Kwali, Abuja, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said it is in line with the Federal Government declaration of State of emergency on food security.

Umakhihe was represented by Mrs Fausat Lawal, Director, Special Duties Ministry of Agriculture.

The permanent secretary said the gesture showed that the Government is passionate about farmers and the value chains.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judious use of the farm inputs given to them.

Earlier, the Director of Animal Husbandry, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Winnie Lai- Solarin,  said the event aimed to address the issue of  high cost of animal feeds in the country.

The director said it was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s eight- point agenda to ensure food security.

She said that the livestock sector contributed greatly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

According to her, without animal feeds

there cannot be good food security.

The beneficiaries in their remarks expressed happiness over the palliatives, saying they would make judious use of them.

Mr Yusuf Usman, a Livestock farmer, thanked the Federal Government for the provision of the palliatives.

A poultry farmer in Gwagwalada, Mrs Hannatu Ibrahim, equally thanked the Government for the gesture.

She said that the poultry business is capital intensive as feeds are very expensive.

Ibrahim called on Government to provide loans or credit facility for poultry farmers to access.
