First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Friday inaugurated a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Gombe, describing it as a gateway to life, hope, and a healthier future for mothers and children across the North-East.
The facility, named after her, is designed to strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery in the region.
Tinubu highlighted the critical importance of maternal and child health in national development, noting that the hospital aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes access to quality healthcare, especially for women and children.
She said the hospital is expected to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates while providing much-needed relief to families in Gombe State and neighboring communities.
The First Lady expressed gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, his wife Asma’u Yahaya, and the people of the state for naming the hospital in her honor. She also commended the governor for sustained investments in healthcare infrastructure and acknowledged Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for championing the project and advancing Nigeria’s progress towards the SDGs.
Earlier, Orelope-Adefulire said the unveiling reaffirmed their collective commitment to providing quality healthcare to the most vulnerable in society.
“This hospital represents a vital step in Nigeria’s journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being for all,” she said.
According to her, the facility is one of several Mother and Child Hospitals being built and equipped through her office in collaboration with state governments.
“The goal is to support states in reducing and ultimately eliminating maternal and infant mortality, while ensuring equitable access to essential healthcare for all,” she added.
During the visit, the First Lady also inaugurated the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gombe, constructed by the state government.
