The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Miss Health Beauty Pageant, Nick Bebiem on Wednesday, said it was postponing 2021 edition of the pageant due to the newly emerged COVID-19 Omicron variant.
Bebiem said this during a news conference organised by the Miss Health Beauty International in Abuja.
According to him, the December 11, earlier scheduled date has been cancelled.
Bebiem said that this decision was because of the newly discovered COVID-19 Omicron variant as disclosed by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
“The 2021 Miss Health Beauty Pageant scheduled to hold on the December 11, has been cancelled and the event postponed due to the recent emergence of the new Omicron variant discovered in Nigeria.
“Therefore, in line with the Miss Health Beauty Pageant objectives, mission and vision, it has become unavoidably pertinent to postpone the 2021 Miss Health Beauty Pageant.
“All contestants have been asked to vacate the camp and they have immediately acted accordingly,” he said.
Bebiem said information on a new date for the pageant would be communicated subsequently to the contestants and members of the public.
He expressed sincere apologies for any inconveniences the decision might have caused the contestants and fans of the pageant.
Bebiem called on Nigerians to take all precautions announced by the NCDC to ensure the new variant was curtailed.
He applauded the government for its swift response in managing the Omicron variant.
