After stabilising victims and carrying out massive sensitisation and awareness campaigns on cholera prevention—particularly proper hygiene practices and an end to open defecation—the Sokoto State Government intensified its emergency response.
Drugs and other consumables were supplied to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in all affected areas, with response times kept within 24 hours to prevent casualties.
The UNICEF Sokoto Field Office supported the state across 12 LGAs, including Binji, Dange-Shuni, Gada, Goronyo, Gwadabawa, Kebbe, Kware, Silame, Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Tureta, and Wamakko.
Items provided include:
20 cartons of Aqua Tabs
577 cholera kits
289 WASH dignity kits
6 drums of chlorine
Other essential supplies
The intervention was made possible with funding from SIDA and the U.S. Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance.
