The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kaduna State Directorate, has embarked on a statewide advocacy campaign in Mosques, Churches, and schools to raise public awareness about rubella measles, a highly infectious disease.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kaduna by the Public Relations Officer of the NOA Kaduna Directorate, Abubakar Argungu on behalf of the State Director, Mr Danjuma Makama.
Makama stated that the advocacy campaign, launched earlier, was part of activities to mark the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.
This year’s theme is “Enhance the Total Well-being of the Child through Quality Education and Skill Development.”
He explained that rubella measles was caused by a virus that primarily affected children and young adults, but fortunately, vaccines were available to prevent it.
This, he said, underscored the urgency to inform and educate the public.
Makama said as part of its outreach, NOA acknowledged the critical role of religious leaders in influencing communities and paid an inaugural advocacy visit to renowned Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi.
He said the advocacy team included a medical consultant with the Federal Ministry of Health; Dr Kabir Mustapha, Abubakar Argungu, NOA representative; Dr Idris Baba; and Ibrahim Mohammed, both of UNICEF’s Kaduna Field Office.
Makama noted that the campaign aimed to create awareness about the dangers of rubella, the effectiveness of vaccines, and the importance of immunisation.
“The NOA team met with religious leaders to sensitise them to the importance of vaccination and the need to protect children from the disease.
“The campaign also aligns with the broader goal of promoting children’s well-being through quality education and skill development,” he said.
He added that by increasing public awareness on rubella, NOA and its partners hoped to reduce infection risks and foster a healthier environment where children could thrive.
