The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has donated medical supplies worth ₦4.4 million to combat the cholera outbreak in the state.
The Chairperson of the BOSCHMA Governing Board, Hajiya Mairo Bunu, handed over items including 400 cartons of Ringer’s Lactate intravenous fluids and 8,000 units to support the state’s emergency response efforts.
The items were presented at the Borno State Drug and Medical Consumables Management Agency headquarters in Maiduguri.
“This is a decision by the governing board to support the cholera response and serve the people of Borno during this difficult period,” she said.
On behalf of the state Ministry of Health, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Mr. Ali Atabo, described the donation as timely and lifesaving.
“We did not expect such a donation, but it is highly significant. Over the past two weeks, we have used more than 1,000 cartons of Ringer’s Lactate to manage cholera cases. This support will help save more lives,” he stated.
The Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr. Abba Kaza, said the gesture reflected the collective commitment of agencies under the Ministry of Health and Human Services to contain the outbreak.
“This is a collective effort. We see it as our responsibility to support the ministry during this critical period and ensure affected patients receive timely treatment,” he said.
Kaza commended Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno for his continued support of the health sector and called on stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing response efforts.
He added that BOSCHMA is also supporting public awareness campaigns on cholera prevention and collaborating with other agencies and partners to contain the outbreak across affected communities.
