As Christian women in Anambra State begin this year’s annual August Meeting, the governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has encouraged them to focus on key issues affecting families and society.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Awka, Dr. Soludo said the August Meeting should be a time for women to speak up about serious problems in their communities that need urgent solutions.
She pointed out issues like poor parenting, loss of family values, drug abuse among students, neglect by parents, and the growing desire for illegal wealth among young people as problems that should be discussed during the meeting.
She said, “It’s time for August Meetings to go beyond what they used to be and start focusing more on promoting peace, tolerance, and finding solutions to serious challenges.”
According to her, the meeting should help women think about new ideas, grow socially, and become more economically empowered.
She also encouraged the women to support others in their group who may be struggling with their faith or personal issues, and to include spiritual revival in their programs.
Dr. Soludo urged couples to learn more about proper family planning, warning that homes without planning can lead to bigger problems for society.
She ended by wishing all the women attending the August Meeting a peaceful and successful event, and asked them to pray for Anambra State and for Nigeria.
