The management of the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, in Nasarawa State has reiterated its commitment to continue to put in place adequate infrastructure and medical equipment for the benefit of patients.
The Public Relations Officer of the medical center, Mrs. Esther Bature, said this when she led a group of journalists on a tour of recently completed and ongoing projects at the center in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
According to Bature, the purpose of the tour of the center is to showcase the array of completed and ongoing projects aimed at catering to the medical needs of patients.
She added that the projects being implemented by the management of the hospital under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Yahaya Baba-Adamu, were also to guarantee effective service delivery.
She explained that “one of the reasons for this tour is that we see the media as an important partner and we want the media to tell the world what we are doing and what we have to offer in terms of facilities and services.”
At the ongoing Twin Modular Theatre project, she said completion was set for December 2023, while the ongoing 116-bed ward extension is subject to the availability of funds.
She added that others are the center’s recently built hemolysis center, which commenced services to patients with kidney challenges; among others, the installation of the second oxygen plant and the recently completed Multi Specialist Unit Building.
Bature said, “We were able to secure the second oxygen plant with a capacity of 60 cylinders per day so as to be able to meet people’s needs and even supply them to neighboring health centers.
“We appreciate the administration of our CMD and the Federal Government for putting in place this second plant. The Multi Specialist Unit Building awaiting commissioning will provide additional office and treatment spaces for the Dental, Physiotherapy, Ophthamology and Psychiatry departments.
“As for the 116-bed ward extension, I can tell you that it’s in its second stage of completion.
The Twin Modular Theatre is an addition to the other theaters in the center.
“It will be used for several operations at the same time and reduce pressure on other theaters,
as our hemolysis center is capable of handling eight patients daily.”
She pointed out that work had started at the FMC Keffi permanent site as the capacity of the current location would not accommodate all the facilities and structures needed to meet patients’ demands.
“The center intends to become a five-star medical facility, and that is long overdue. So, right now, we have started two projects at the permanent site, which are the house officers’ quarters and the trauma center, which are at their foundation level now,” she said.
She added that some of the projects would be inaugurated in 2024 and urged the public, especially patients, to continue to have faith in the medical center to meet their medical needs.
