Silver-Cross Hospitals and Foundation, Abuja, has provided free medical screening for over 200 elderly residents to commemorate the 2025 World Alzheimer’s Day.
The exercise, held at the Arts and Culture Complex, Area 10, featured drug donations, consultations, and awareness sessions. It was organised in partnership with NaidCARE, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), and the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN).

CEO of Silver-Cross Hospitals, Dr. Patrick Ezie, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and promoting compassion for the elderly, many of whom face Alzheimer’s disease but are often stigmatised.
He explained that the condition remains poorly understood in Nigeria, with symptoms frequently mistaken for spiritual or cultural causes. “Stigmatisation worsens their condition, so we are appealing for more care and support,” he noted.
Stakeholders, including COSROPIN’s National Coordinator, Sen. Eze Ajoku, and NaidCARE’s Dr. Olubanjo Akerele, called for more awareness campaigns and special care facilities for older persons.
