House of Representatives member, Kabiru Ahmadu, (APC, Zamfara) representing Gusau/Tsafe, Federal Constituency, has donated food items and relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Tsafe, town.
Thousands of IDPs, mainly women and children, have been displaced from their communities by the activities of bandits and are now in a camp in Tsafe town, Tsafe LGA of the state.
Presenting the items to the Tsafe Emirate Council at the temporary IDPs camp on Saturday, the lawmaker said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by the IDPs.
Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Naziru Ibrahim, the lawmaker said the items comprised 20 bags of Rice, 50 cartons of Indomie noodles, 50 cartons of Spaghetti, 50 cartons of Macaroni, 4 bags of Garri, 100 pieces of sugar, 100 sets of mats, 100 kettles and 100 sets of brooms.
In addition, there were also other items that included soaps, buckets, rubber drums and buckets.
Earlier, the Secretary to the lawmaker, Mustafa Hassan, described the donation as complementing the state and Federal Government efforts at assisting the IDPs in the state.
Hassan called on residents of the state to continue to pray and seek God’s intervention in ending the security challenges facing the state.
In his remark, the Emir of Tsafe, Muhammad Bawa commended the lawmaker for his donation, which he described as timely.
Bawa appealed to the people in the IDP camp to be patient and consider their condition as a test from God.
“We should be patient, Inshallah, we will overcome these challenges,” the emir said.
The Deputy Speaker of the Zamfara state House of Assembly, Musa Bawa also applauded the lawmaker for considering the IDPs.
He expressed optimism that the current measures placed by the state and federal governments would help in addressing banditry in the state.
