Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zamfara state on Monday, received donation of assorted grains from former governor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar to ease their suffering during the holy month of Ramadan.
Donating the items on behalf of Yari, a charity group, “Zamfara Circle” said he donated 47 trucks of millet, maize, rice and sugar to put smile on the faces of IDPs, especially during this holy month.
The former governor set up a monitoring committee to supervise the distribution of the commodities by the Zamfara Circle and applauded the effort of the group to provide succour to the traumatized IDPs.
During the inauguration of the distribution, the chairman of the committee, Aminu Jelani said each of the IDPs would receive one bag of food item or more with sugar.
He said Yari also warned the committee against taking bribe to anyone who may demand it before handing over the items to them.
“We are very much confident in Zamfara Circle, considering their track record, so we believe they will ensure justice. Don’t allow anyone to collect anything from the them (IDPs) as we trust your reputation, Jelani said.
On his part, Chairman Zamfara Circle, Dr Al-amin Tsafe vowed to ensure equal distribution of the items, saying their aim is to ensure Zamfara people are comfortable in all aspects of life.
He commended the former governor for the gesture, which he described as timely.
