ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago says his government is open to dialogue with bandits in a bid to tame the tide of insecurity in the state.
Bago stated this shortly after he met with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
Reacting to the recent attack on security personnel in the state, Bago said that there was a need to degrade the capabilities of bandits and halt the menace of insecurity in the state.
“The Governor said the state government is adopting a non-kinetic approach in tackling insecurity in the state as all options for resolving security threats were opened including the establishment of a new Ministry for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, to among other things, identify the concerns of herdsmen and possible ways of addressing them.
“He however said government is prepared to resort to the kinetic approach by engaging the military to combat the banditry if dialogue fails,” a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bologi Ibrahim said.
