Senator Aliyu Wamakko on Thursday, completed the distribution of the 105 motorcycles donated to the members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, in 21 local governments of Sokoto state.
Each of the local governments, including Tambuwal, Kebbe, Shagari, Yabo. Bodinga, Tureta and Dange Shuni, which comprise Sokoto South Senatorial District, were presented with five motorcycles for use by the vigilante groups.
Their colleagues in Sokoto South and Sokoto North local governments will soon get special packages under the arrangement.
Speaking during the event, Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District said that the gesture was aimed at bolstering the provision of security to the lives and properties of the entire people of the state.
Represented by the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Isa Achida, Wamakko, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, admonished the vigilantes to use the motorcycles judiciously .
Wamakko, while warning them against selling the motorcycles, also urged them to work in collaboration with the security agencies, as well as strictly observe their basic operational guidelines.
He also called on them to strive to provide credible intelligence reports to the security agencies, with a view to nipping crimes in the bud.
Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman, Sokoto South Senatorial District, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, commended Wamakko for the invaluable gesture, which he noted will bolster the operations of the beneficiaries.
The APC chairman, Dange Shuni local government, Alhaji Ibrahim Sarkin Baura stated that, they were not surprised with the invaluable gesture from Wamakko as he has been assisting the less privileged persons for over five decades.
Sarkin Baura, while lauding Senator Wamakko, also appealed to other elected and appointed officials , businessmen and other privileged persons to emulate him.
The State Chairman of the VGN, Alhaji Ibrahim Maikwalli, while commending the lawmaker for the gesture, also promised to use the motorcycles for the purpose they were meant for.
