TotalEnergies, a leading energy company, has made history by becoming the first private sector company to receive 3-star recognition in the newly launched Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Road Safety Index.
This prestigious achievement was disclosed during a press conference by FIA Secretary-General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, Jacob Bangsgaard at the Vision Zero Conference held in Stockholm, Sweden.
The FIA Road Safety Index, developed by the FIA Foundation, aims to provide companies and organizations with a comprehensive tool to assess and improve their safety performance. It enables businesses to measure their safety footprint, report on their accomplishments, and enhance their results.
According to Bangsgaard, TotalEnergies’ 3-star recognition signifies the highest level of achievement within the FIA Road Safety Index’s methodology adding that this index empowers companies to evaluate their safety impact across their entire value chain, contributing to the creation of a secure and sustainable mobility network for all.
“The announcement underscores the shared commitment of TotalEnergies and the FIA to taking action and improving the lives of road users worldwide. With approximately 1.3 million fatalities and countless injuries caused by road crashes annually, the need for concerted efforts to enhance road safety is evident.
“To achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of halving road safety crashes by 2030, we must engage everyone in building a culture of safety. Companies and organizations have a crucial role to play, and the FIA Road Safety Index provides them with a comprehensive solution to assess, report, and take concrete action to improve road safety. I am delighted to see TotalEnergies achieve the highest result, and I am convinced that their success will inspire other companies and organizations to adopt the Index,” he said.
The Senior Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at TotalEnergies, Michel Charton expressed pride in the recognition received, saying, “We are proud that our long-standing commitment to road safety has been acknowledged through the FIA Road Safety Index. Safety has always been our daily battle, fought with humility and vigilance. We hope that this FIA program will motivate other private sector companies to reduce their safety footprints, ultimately leading the way towards safer mobility,”
