The Historical Background of the Traditional Tile of Tambara

The The traditional title of Tambara, historically originated from Senegal, Azbin and Kwanni (Birnin Konni) in Nigeria’s neighbouring Niger Republic. The title symbolizes a person who works tirelessly for the development and well being of his people. It was what encouraged the conferment and subsequent turbaning of a legislative member in Niger Republic, Hajiya Rabi’atu as the first Tambara of Kwanni by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kwanni in recognition of her selfless contribution for the development of education, especially girlchild education. The title has now been dedicated to women of virtue and generosity who have distinguished themselves in civil society organisations aimed at the development of Islamic and Western education as well as solving other societal needs.

It is on the basis of this that His Royal Highness, the District Head of Binji (Sarkin Yakin Binji), Alhaji Kabiru Usman Abdulwahab saw the need to confer and turban Hajiya Ameena Garba Yusuf, mni, MON as TAMBARAR BINJI in appreciation of her contributions to the development of Education and other needs of Binji Royal Council, Binji local government and Sokoto state as a whole.
