The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has admonished Muslims to educate themselves about Islam, most especially children and the older ones, in order to reduce ignorance and illiteracy in the society.

The Sultan, who is also the President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), gave the task on Saturday during the Annual Usman Danfodio Week in Ilorin.

According to him, it is important to educate children, both boys and girls, as well as old ones who do not have enough knowledge about the religion.

“Therefore, the lecture is very educative and should be shared among family and friends, as well as on social media, for people to gain knowledge about the religion.

“There is one thing to learn about Almighty Allah and there is another thing to work with it. So, let us try and spread the lecture for those that are not present,” he said.

The President General of NSCIA said that the lecture would be taken to other parts of the country in order to spread the knowledge of Islam widely.

“Let us continue to spread the knowledge of Islam in order to benefit us in this life and get the reward in the hereafter,” he said.

The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Yusuf Sagaya commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing enabling environment for the event.

The chairman wished that the lecture goes viral, to reach all intended audience across the globe, and prayed that Almighty Allah reward all the audience with beneficial knowledge.

He thanked the Sultan for great opportunity given to the people as well as the guest lecturer, Dr Zakir Naik, for sharing out of his knowledge to the people of Kwara and all other beneficiaries of the lecture.

Naik, who spoke on “The Concept of God in Major World Religions”, said it was mentioned in many holy books that God is only one.

He added it was clearly mentioned in the highest scripture that everything in the world was created by Almighty God and that different nations call God by varieties of names.

According to Naik, Almighty God is incomparable with anybody or anything and indescribable, God is unique and magnificent.

The guest speaker said that Almighty God is the supreme and can only be described with the most beautiful names ever imagined, especially the way Almighty Allah was described in the holy Qur’an.

He warned that Almighty Allah should not be associated or worship with any other God, saying that it is the most grievous offence and unforgivable.

Naik urged Muslims to put their full trust in Almighty Allah who is the only God and the only one worthy to be praised and worshipped.

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Grand Khadi of Kwara Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, enjoined all Muslims to uphold the teaching of Islam and be steadfast in their religion.

He called on Muslims to believe in Almighty Allah, as the only God, “so that in the hereafter they will all be admitted in Al-Jannah, as their final abode.

The governor thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity and blessings given, also for the success of the event and prayed for more protection and blessings on the Sultan, guest speaker and the nation in general.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari; JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede; the Group Managing Director/CEO of KAM Holding Limited, Dr Kamoru Yusuf MON, as well as other traditional rulers and title holders graced the event.
