A member representing Gudu/Tangaza Federal constituency of Sokoto state, Yusuf Kurdulla has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for awarding contract for the construction of 46 kilometer Balle-Kurdulla-Niger Republic border road.
He made the commendation in an exclusive chat with AsheNews on the N5 billion project awarded to Messrs North Sea Limited, which contract is to be completed in 24 months.
Kurdulla also thanked the former governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko on behalf of members of his constituency for starting the project and facilitating its completion by Federal government.
“The $26.2 million Balle-Kurdullah-Niger Republic border road, if completed will be a boost for President Buhari’s economic recovery and growth plan aimed at boosting trade and economy, especially the international commercial activities between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
“The road links up hundreds of towns and villages of Nigeria and Niger Republic and will eventually improve infrastructure for local and international businesses across the border areas, especially now that African governments have taken affirmative position of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA,” he said.
The lawmaker also called on Sokoto state government to hasten the reconstruction of Yaka-Bachaka-Niger Republic border road.
“The road is an important project to the communities of Nigeria and Niger Republic and it will strengthen the businesses of Nigeria and Niger Republic and traditional institutions of the two countries. There are a good number of markets being patronized by Nigerien business community in Nigeria,” Kurdulla said.
