“The earth dam in Lambar Tureta is also being dredged and expanded to prevent it from overflowing its banks and causing flooding”

Dr Balarabe Shehu-Kakale, a member of the House of Representatives (PDP-Sokoto) said he has attracted federal projects worth over N1billion to his constituency from 2020 till date.

Shehu-Kakale,who represents Dange/Shuni-Bodinga-Tureta Federal Constituency said in Abuja on Wednesday, that he also executed N300 million empowerment and infrastructure schemes.

He said that these included ecological fund projects worth over N600 million currently being executed in Tureta local government of the state.

According to him, the projects are aimed at combating the perennial flooding and drownings in Lambar Tureta, Tureta Gari and Duma, as well as gully erosion in Loha and Tsamiya districts.

“The earth dam in Lambar Tureta is also being dredged and expanded to prevent it from overflowing its banks and causing flooding,” he said.

Shehu-Kakale also said that the 25km Tureta-Danchadi Bodinga road was being constructed by the Federal Government, saying that it will benefit more than 12 largely agrarian communities.

They include: Dankilo, Hausawa, Satiru, Alu-Dange, Kindiru and Danchadi, among others.

The lawmaker further said that the project would improve security, boost access and food/Livestock production and bolster a myriad of socioeconomic activities in the communities.

“It will also shorten the distances to and from various communities in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, among others.

Shehu-Kakale said: “I must thank the Ecological Projects office and the Federal Ministry of Works for listening to our plea and embarking on this project.

“The first phase of 3kms has been asphalted and we are working hard to get additional funding to get the road completed and tarred.

Meanwhile, Shehu-Kakale also said that had executed personal empowerment projects worth over N300 million within the period under review in 11 sets of empowerment programmes.

In this direction, in one of those 11 programmes held in Dange town on August 28, no fewer than 900 indigent constituents had benefited from a special empowerment scheme tagged: “Sultan Muhammadu Bello Industrial Zones Development”.

According to him, 300 unemployed persons had benefited from the scheme from each of the three local governments that make up the constituency.

Shehu-Kakale added that the items distributed included 42 motorcycles, 35 deep freezers, 40 sewing machines, fashion and beauty items and sewing machines for women amongst other things.

Others included ploughs for agriculture, 40 water pumping machines, 60 generating sets, improved seeds, inputs and implements.

Similarly, other items doled out were welding machines, solar-powered lamp posts for Almajiri schools, sunk six boreholes, as well as executed several water and sanitation projects.

“These items were given out as part of efforts to resuscitate out traditional cottage industries like weaving, black smithing, sewing, carving, butchery, tie and dye, among others.

“This was done in the memory of the great Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Bello who had an economic policy for the defunct Sokoto Caliphate based on cottage industrial and functional educational development models,” Shehu-Kakale added.

Shehu-Kakale further listed the projects to include a block of four classrooms each in Dange/Shuni and Bodinga local governments and an upcoming one in Tureta LGA as part of efforts to complement the efforts of government in funding education.
