ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the reallocation of N47.4 billion from unused budget lines to areas of more urgent financial need. The decision was reached during the council’s meeting on Wednesday, five months into the implementation of the N526.88 billion 2025 state budget.
Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Zayyanu, explained that the move was informed by the latest quarterly performance report, which revealed that several budgetary provisions remained unutilized. He said the amendment of the budget lines is intended to “allow priorities to be factored in the budget” and ensure that funds are channeled toward more impactful sectors.
According to him, the reallocated funds will be directed to areas where spending is currently needed, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to align public resources with real-time development demands. This adjustment is part of a broader fiscal strategy to improve efficiency and ensure timely delivery of services to the people of Sokoto State.
ASHENEWS reports that the newly amended budget will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval in the coming days.
