ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has constituted a panel of inquiry to look into the auction of government’s assets.
The panel will also examine land allocations and other related matters, including sales and auctions of government houses by the administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Aliyu also gave the committee a period of two month to submit its report.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa mailed to ASHENEWS on Saturday, said the panel is “constituted in pursuance of the powers conferred on the Governor by section 1(2) of the commission of inquiry Law, Cap 33 Laws of Sokoto state 1996.”
Members of the panel
The commission has the following as members:
1. Hon Justice M. A. Pindiga (rtd), Chairman
2. Chief Jacob E. Ochidi SAN, member
3. Alhaji Usman Abubakar, member
4. Lema Sambo Wali Esq, member
5. Nasiru Mohammed Binji Esq, Secretary
Terms of reference
The terms of reference include among others;
- To examine the sales and auctions of Government’s Assets including;
(a) all official vehicles of state and local governments
(b) all plants and machineries of state and local governments
(c) to ascertain the government bank accounts and amounts realized from the sales and auctions of governments assets.
2. Examine the various allocations of lands throughout the state including;
(a) Plots of lands allocated to individuals and body of persons, whether corporate or unincorporated in the Sokoto new city.
(b) All carved-out plots
(c) All government houses sold or auctioned
The Commission is expected to submit its report within two months from the date of its first sitting to the Governor.
