The Society of Digital Newspaper Owners of Nigeria (SDNON) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, describing their deaths as a double tragedy for the nation.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Adeniyi Ifetayo, SDNON paid tribute to President Buhari, who died recently in London. The organization described the former leader as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s political history, noting his dual roles as both military Head of State and democratically elected President.
“President Buhari’s legacy is marked by his fight against corruption, his handling of security challenges, and his influence on governance and accountability,” the group said. “As digital media practitioners, we acknowledge his lasting contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.”
SDNON also mourned the loss of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who passed away the same day as President Buhari. The revered monarch, who reigned for 65 years, was praised as a symbol of wisdom, tradition, and modernization.
“Oba Adetona’s impact extended beyond Ijebuland and Ogun State. He was a voice of reason and an advocate for justice, whose reign significantly shaped traditional leadership in Nigeria,” the group stated.
The Society extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the government, and the people of Nigeria, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
“May Almighty Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdaus and strengthen their families in this time of grief,” SDNON prayed.
