According to eyewitnesses and residents, the heavy duty vehicles have been responsible for the deaths of almost seven people just this week alone.
A resident a s elderly member of the community, Alhaji Adamu expressed his frustration over the deaths on the roads caused by the drivers of the heavy duty vehicles.
He said, “these heavy vehicles kill people in our town every day.”
Adamu lamented how the drivers of these vehicles show no regard for human life as they flee the scene without consoling the victims’ families or assisting in any way.
He then appealed to the government to intervene into the issue before more lives are lost.
Another resident, Hassan echoed Adamu’s sentiments, stating that the community is exhausted from living in fear of these heavy vehicles.
“We can’t even walk freely anymore, because you never know from which side a trailer or tanker will come and hit you,” he lamented.
Hassan urged the government to take immediate action, either by redirecting the route of these vehicles or implementing measures to ensure public safety.
According to him, the Lapai community is demanding justice and protection from the government.
“With the rising death toll and lack of accountability from drivers, it is imperative that the government takes concrete steps to address this critical issue”, Hassan stated.
