ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Police Command says efforts are underway to arrest two out of the three suspects indicted in the case of the killing of a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Dr Mrs Funmilola Adefolalu.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Wasiu Abiodun made this known in a statement issued on Saturday in Minna.
This online platform earlier reported that the lecturer was found dead in her residence in the Gbaiko Area of Minna in October 2023.
Her 14-year-old househelp, Joy Afekafe was later arrested in connection with the incident.
The Niger state police command had in a statement said that the suspect confessed to colluding with her classmates called Walex and Smart, and conspired to attack the Lecturer at her residence after she (Joy) was laid off from her job.
“She said they went to the residence on 28/10/2023 at about 1600hrs, with a motorcycle and she surfaced at the gate, while the lecturer opened the gate for her.
“Walex and Smart later entered, beat the deceased, hit her head with a stood and stabbed her with a knife brought by Walex while Smart took another knife from the kitchen, and stabbed her severally.
“She said the deceased phone and laptop were taken away, while they also removed the battery of the vehicle parked in the compound and fled the scene,” the statement had said.
Giving an update on the case on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson said that it recently arrested one Mohammad Abubakar of Gbeganu in possession of the deceased’s handset.
“During interrogation, he confessed that he bought the handset from Walex at the rate of twenty-nine thousand naira. The suspect has been arraigned in court, as effort is still in progress to arrest Walex and Smart, who are still at large,” the statement said.
The statement added that the first suspect, Joy has since been prosecuted in court.
