The Yobe State Police Command has barred members of voluntary security outfits from participating in the forthcoming elections.
The command gave the warning in a statement by the Spokesman of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Tuesday in Damaturu.
He listed the outfits to include hunters, Boys Scout, Man O’ War, Boys Brigade, and personnel of Yobe Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA).
He warned that defaulters and those found flaunting the order would be prosecuted, stressing that the Electoral Act 2022 does not recognize them in election security.
According to him, human and vehicular movements would be restricted from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 25, adding that individuals on essential duties were exempted.
The spokesman advised voters to return home after casting their votes and await the declaration of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He reiterated the readiness of the command towards ensuring adequate security coverage before, during, and after the elections.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haruna Garba has charged the police personnel to protect human rights and obey extant laws guiding the conduct of the exercise.
The spokesman also enjoined the citizenry to assist the police with credible information about any attempt by individuals or groups to disrupt the conduct of the elections.
