ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has accepted the ruling of the Supreme Court which affirmed Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal.
“As a law-abiding political party, the PDP recognizes the Judiciary as the constitutional arbiter on issues regarding elections in our nation,” the PDP said.
The party urges its members to remain calm in respect to the rule of law.
“Our party also strongly believes it is solely by divine will that power is acquired and sustained at appointed periods. We therefore enjoin members and supporters of the PDP in Sokoto State to exercise their traditional calm in respect for the rule of law.“
“Our party dedicates itself to playing its role in the democratic governance of our dear state. In connection with that, our party shall discharge its responsibility to the people of ensuring that their entitlement to service delivery is guaranteed by the government in power, accountably and transparently.
It assured residents that it will continue to uphold its responsibilities as an opposition to the ruling government.
“We wish to express the party’s appreciation to our members and the entire people of Sokoto State for their support during the electioneering and legal processes. The PDP calls upon all stakeholders in the entire state to rededicate ourselves to ensuring that the democratic ideal is adhered to in the business of governance in our state,” the statement said.
This online platform reports that the Supreme Court had dismissed an appeal by Saidu Umar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging Aliyu’s election on Thursday.
The court ruled the appeal as incompetent and lacking in merit.
