ASHENEWS reports that apprehension has currently besieged the Anguwan-Daji area in the Minna metropolis following the death of a famous youth leader in the early hours of Sunday.
This online platform gathered that the deceased, identified as ‘Ali Diouf’, whose son’s naming ceremony was billed for tomorrow, was killed during a cult clash by hoodlums reportedly to be from Bosso, another suburb in Minna.
A resident of the area, who spoke to ASHENEWS in confidence said that Ali’s death came as a shock to many and has created tension in the area.
Narrating the incident that led to his death, the source who preferred not to be named, said that the deceased died from injuries he sustained when the two rival groups clashed at Shekwata, in the Bosso local government area of Niger state on Sunday morning.
“Ali led a group of hunters to Shekwata on Sunday morning. As a tradition, the hunter’s group organizes a hunting festival on behalf of any member who is getting married or has a new addition to his family. Being the celebrant, Ali was not supposed to have gone with the others but unfortunately, he decided to join them.
“When they got close to a filling station at Shekwata, they met with a rival group of hoodlums from Bosso, and before a fight could erupt, he (Ali) decided to go talk to them being their leader.
“One of the boys, whom we identified to be from Bosso stabbed him in the back and before the others could cross over to meet them, they had fled. He was later rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
On the current situation in the area, the source said that although security agencies have been mobilized to forestall the breakdown of law and order, residents have been advised to stay indoors.
“We all know that these clashes are notorious for being reprisal. When a commoner dies during these cult clashes, the reprisals are always violent. This time, a popular figure like Ali Diouf has been killed. This is indeed alarming,” the source said.
The deceased has since been buried amid tight security in the area.
