The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) has approved the promotion of eight lecturers to Professor and 17 others to Reader.

The decision is contained in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, issued on Monday in Lokoja.

According to Omale, the approvals were made during the council’s 72nd regular meeting held on Friday at the University Council Chamber, chaired by Prof. Mohammed Suleiman Audu.

“The development reinforces the institution’s commitment to scholarship, research productivity, and institutional growth,” Omale said.

He added that the council approved the promotions after reviewing recommendations from the Appointments and Promotion Committee.

The new professors include Dr. Okpe Alfa (Animal Production) and Dr. Onimisi Mero (Fisheries and Aquaculture).

Others are Dr. Okpanachi Abdubala (Animal and Environmental Biology), Dr. Friday Sale (Pure and Industrial Chemistry), Dr. Saad Murtala (Arabic and Islamic Studies), Dr. Okpanachi Anthony (Philosophy), Dr. Sani Idris Ahmed (Economics), and Dr. Hassan Achimugu (Public Administration).

Seventeen lecturers were promoted to Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor).

They include Dr. Attaugwu Roseline (Food, Nutrition and Home Science), Dr. Amana Unekwu (Animal and Environmental Biology), Dr. Ameh Mark and Dr. Larayetan Abisoye (both from Pure and Industrial Chemistry).

Others are Dr. Afere Eniola (Mathematical Sciences), Dr. Abraham Joseph (Microbiology), Dr. Yusuf Shrifudeen (Arabic and Islamic Studies), Dr. Obera Joy (Arts Education – English Language), Dr. Muraina Olanrewaju (Educational Foundations), Dr. Emmanuel Friday Titus (Medicinal Chemistry), Dr. Agbana Funmilayo (Mass Communication), Dr. Aliu Monday and Dr. Usman Muhammed (both from Political Science), Dr. Okeme Patrick (Public Administration), Dr. Shaibu Joshua (Social Science Education), Dr. Atoyebi Abayomi (Sociology), and Dr. Ugwu James (Accounting).

“The promotions reflect PAAU’s policy of rewarding hard work, strengthening research output, and sustaining academic standards,” the PRO stated.

He said the council reaffirmed its support for policies promoting scholarship, staff development, institutional stability, and global academic visibility.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Salisu Usman congratulated the promoted staff for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to teaching, research, and community service.

He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through impactful research, high academic standards, and mentorship of younger academics.

The Vice-Chancellor also reaffirmed management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for academic growth and professional advancement.
