The Oyo State Government has set a standard rate of N14,000 per meter for groundwater abstraction, commonly known as borehole drilling, across the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, announced this on Thursday in Ibadan during an interactive meeting with stakeholders in the groundwater abstraction sector.
Mogbonjubola explained that the meeting was convened to address the challenges faced by practitioners and explore collaborative solutions for the sustainable management of the state’s groundwater resources.
According to him, engaging with industry stakeholders is essential to bringing order to the sector and ensuring a balanced approach that benefits both drilling rig owners and mid-level practitioners.
The commissioner emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to providing potable water to residents through all viable strategies.
“This is why the government has created a favourable environment for individuals who can afford to drill boreholes in their communities,” he stated.
