ASHENEWS reports that Overland Airways will commence commercial flight operations at the newly revamped Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport (BATIA) in Minna, beginning on April 23, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, the long-awaited partnership between the Niger State Government and Overland Airways marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and economic development in the state.
The airline will operate three weekly flights each on the Minna-Lagos-Minna and Minna-Abuja-Minna routes, offering travelers more convenient air travel options, the statement said.
Flights will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, using the airline’s state-of-the-art Embraer 175 aircraft.
“The Lagos-Minachia flights will depart Lagos at 8:00 AM, while the return flight from Minna to Lagos will be at 3:00 PM. Meanwhile, the Minna-Abuja route will see departures at 9:30 AM from Minna, with the return flight to Minna leaving Abuja at 2:00 PM.”
The statemtn further described the launch of commercial flights as part of an ongoing initiative by Niger State’s Governor Umaru Bago to boost the state’s development and economy through enhanced trade, tourism, and increased investment.
“Governor Bago has long championed the idea of making Minna a key aviation hub, a vision that aligns with his broader goals of modernizing the state.
“Governor Bago emphasized the importance of Overland Airways, one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and most trusted airlines.”
The statemtn explained that the carrier has recently renewed its IOSA safety certification for the fifth consecutive time, further affirming its reputation for safety and reliability.
“As a member of both the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Overland Airways brings valuable expertise and experience to Niger State’s aviation sector.”
The operational oversight of the airline’s activities in Niger State will be handled by the New Niger Aviation (NNA), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established under the New Niger Development Project (NNDP), designed to enhance the aviation infrastructure and services within the state.
