The Osun government has announced plans to launch a Security Trust Fund in the state.
Mr. Kunle Adepoju, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Implementation Committee of the fund, said at a news conference on Tuesday in Osogbo that the initiative aims to enhance security across the state.
Adepoju described security as the foundation for meaningful development and said the trust fund would be formally launched on April 23.
“We are here to unveil plans for the State Security Trust Fund. This initiative, designed by Gov. Ademola Adeleke, seeks to strengthen our security architecture through collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility. Without security, businesses cannot thrive, communities cannot flourish, and citizens cannot live confidently. While the government has the primary responsibility to ensure safety, the realities of our time demand a broader, more inclusive approach. This trust fund embodies that approach,” he said.
Adepoju explained that the platform would bring together government, the private sector, development partners, and individuals to pool resources and support security agencies.
“From modern equipment and technology to training, logistics, and intelligence gathering, this initiative addresses critical gaps and enhances operational efficiency,” he said.
He added that transparency and accountability would guide the fund and urged stakeholders to support the initiative.
Mr. Femi Oyedipe, Secretary of the Implementation Committee, said no government can fund security alone.
“Security funding is one of the most expensive responsibilities of government. The trust fund promotes public-private partnerships in financing security. A board comprising key stakeholders has already been constituted,” he said, adding that the fund would focus on developing infrastructure within the security sector.
