At least 1,500 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Bauchi State are to benefit from a 10-day hands-on training in vocational skills to be conducted by accredited trainers.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Umoren Kufre, on Wednesday, declared the training open at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members will be trained on Information and Communication Technology; catering and pastry making; tailoring; shoemaking; painting, and electrification, among others.
Kufre reiterated the importance of equipping corps members with relevant skills to promote self-reliance and economic development.
He disclosed that the scheme had also conducted post-camp trainings with accredited Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) trainers across the state.
“Skills are significant and will provide you with a source of income.
“The trainers will give you hands-on training and other instructions to help you acquire sustainable means of livelihood,‘’ Kufre said.
He advised the corps members to choose skills they were passionate about to ensure continuity, urging them to pay close attention, during both practical and theoretical sessions.
Also speaking, the Acting Director, SAED, Mr Khamis Ahmed, urged the corps members to take the training seriously in order to become self-reliant and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
He said that NYSC introduced the SAED programme to empower young people with practical skills that would prepare them to become employers of labour, rather than job seekers after their service.
