The National Universities Commission (NUC) has presented the North West University Sokoto, one of the 12 private universities recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with a provisional license to commence its academic activities.
Presenting the licence to the proprietor of the institution and Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu said the establishment of private universities came at the right time when the nation is in dire need of more educational institutions.
He said the approval of university by FEC in April showed federal government’s commitment towards providing sound and quality education in Nigeria.
Receiving the licence, Wamakko expressed redness to continue with his efforts of bringing succour to the less privileged in the society.
He thanked the federal government, NUC and other stakeholders that contributed in ensuring the actualization of the university.
The presentation ceremony attracted dignitaries including university proprietors, members of the academic community, at the event that held at NUC’s Idris Abdulkadir Conference Hall in Abuja.
Senator Wamakko was accompanied by former Nigerian Ambassador to Republic of Tanzania, Amb. Sahabi Isah Gada; Member, representing Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu; the Secretary, Planning and Implementation Committee of the University and one time Commissioner of Information in Sokoto State, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo and a former Commissioner of Fisheries and Animal Health, Muhammadu Tukur Alkali as well as Nasiru Wasagu, among others.
