Nigerian Northeast governors have donated N20 million to Sokoto state government over recent bandits attack and killings of 43 people at Goronyo market in Goronyo local government area of the state.
Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum announced the donation when he, in company of his Gombe state counterpart, Muhammad Yahaya visited Sokoto on Saturday, to condole with the people and government of the state over the bandits attack that claimed lives in Goronyo.
Zulum expressed displeasure over the incident and offered that his counterpart in the region, especially his state which has more than a decade experience of engaging the Boko Haram insurgents, will offer valuable counsel to Sokoto and other North-Western states currently experiencing the scourge of bandits and marauders.
Responding, Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal applauded the Northeast Governors Forum, NGF, for its kind gesture and assured that his administration would avail itself with the wealth of experience of his counterparts.
Attributing the influx of the criminals to the security operations in Zamfara, Tambuwal called on the federal government to expand the operation to other states of the North-West.
He also appealed for the provision of more equipment to security operatives, to enable them confront and curtail the bandits and other criminals.
Tambuwal later led his visitors to Ummarun Kwabo Jarma Academy in Sokoto which hosts several orphans whose parents were killed by Boko Haram adherents in the Northeast.
