ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Government has dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms and social media that Governor Mohammed Bago’s convoy was attacked by suspected bandits in Mashegu Local Government Area.
The government, through a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bologi Ibrahim, described the claims as baseless, false, and unfounded.
This online platform reports that the governor is currently on a tour of communities in the Niger North Senatorial District.
The tour, which started last week is scheduled to be concluded on Thursday.
The statement maintained that the tour has been peaceful, with no incidents of attack or threats to the governor or his team.
“The convoy of the farmer Governor has been having a smooth tour of ongoing projects across the Niger North Senatorial District since last week.
“The Farmer Governor’s tour has been peaceful with no incident of any attack or threat to his safety or that of his team.
“Farmer Governor Umaru Bago has rather been enjoying warm reception from Community members in all places visited so far.
“Security personnel with the cooperation of local law enforcement personnel have also been resolute in ensuring the safety and security of all participants in the tour,” the statement said.
The Niger State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged the public to disregard false reports while relying on verified sources for accurate information.
“The State Government said it is unfortunate that some Media practitioners are so unethical, disseminating false and misleading information to the public.
“The State Government then enjoined the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council, to ensure only trained Journalists are allowed to practice the Profession and those trained, should also endeavour to practice within the ethics of the profession bearing in mind that as the fourth estate of the realm, they are stakeholders in nation building.”
