The Alumni Association of the National Institute, AANI, on Saturday held its 41st Annual General Meeting, AGM, for year 2021 and elected new officials for the association.
A statement by the national publicity secretary of the association, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, rtd, made available to ASHENEWS on Sunday quoted the national president, IGP Mohammed Abubakar as commending members for finding their commitment to the association as manifested in the large turnout.
According to Abubakar, the last two years were very challenging following “the COVID-19 pandemic, which impacted negatively on the association as it also lost some of its members. The association took advantage of the pandemic and assisted the less privileged in the society,” he said, adding that the Association had registered the AANI Cooperative Society, which is for members’ benefit.
IGP Abubakar noted that the 41st AGM was one with the highest turnout of members since its inception.
Kukasheka stated that the electoral committee, headed by Engr. Jani Ibrahim conducted the hitch-free election, which returned IGP Abubakar as president.
“Ambassador Emmanuel Okafor was elected vice president, having scored the highest votes against Air Commodore Ademola Onituju, rtd. Abubakar Isah defeated Dr Gado Shehu to emerge as Secretary-General, while Dr Kayode Babatunde, was elected Assistant Secretary-General, having higher votes against Dr. Ogbonna Onyeisi.
“Barrister Kemi Olomola-Sijuwade was elected Legal Adviser, defeating Barrister Emmanuel Cobham. Dr Asheikh Maidugu of the Federal Inland Revenue Service was elected Financial Secretary, having polled more votes than Mrs Maryamu Madami, the Chairman of Kaduna State and Mrs Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi.
“Mr Salawu Zubairu was elected Internal Auditor, having scored more votes against Mr Babatunde Abdurrahman. Brig. – Gen. Sani Kukasheka, a former Director of Army Public Relations, was elected as Publicity Secretary of the association, having scored more votes against two contestants; Ambassador Christy Mbonu and Mrs Omolara Balogun. Alhaji Ismail Sifawa and Chief Love Ezema were elected unopposed as Treasurer and Welfare/Social Officer, respectively,” the statement reads.
In his inaugural address, the new President, IGP Mohammed Abubakar thanked all for the confidence in him and the new EXCO, which he said would commence work in earnest.
He assured members of a high-quality leadership towards a better society and also thanked Nigerians and the media for their immense support, while assuring that AANI would continue to work towards a better society in Nigeria.
Among those that attended the event were Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, who was represented by Usman Kankara; the District Head of Ketare, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police, David Folawiyo; the acting Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Brigadier General CU Udaya (rtd); Dr Pat Eze, Comrade Ayuba Wabba and Comrade Isa Aremu, amongst others.
