ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state government has addressed residents of the state following the August 1-10th protest against economic hardship in the country.
The Acting Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, during a statewide broadcast on Monday, appreciated the residents of the state for shunning active demonstrations in the state.
The acting governor said that the actions of residents demonstrated mutual respect for the present administration by the people.
“It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today to express our heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders and residents of our great state for restraining yourselves from active participation in the recent protest and choosing the path of dialogue.
“Your commitment to unity, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue is not just commendable, but it is the very essence of our collective dedication to the progress and development of Niger State. You, the esteemed stakeholders and residents, are the driving force behind our state’s progress.
“Therefore, I would like to extend our gratitude to the people, old and young, male and female; the leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Students Union Government (SUG), National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), Artisan Association, Traditional Leaders, Imams Forum, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Vigilante Group, Road Transport Union, Marketers Association, and other key stakeholders. Your decision to honour your commitment and refrain from participating in the nationwide protest exemplifies your role as true partners in progress,” Garba said.
The acting governor also lauded journalists and security agencies for their efforts in ensuring that law and order were maintained during the demonstrations.
The acting governor assured that the Niger State government will convey the grievances and concerns of residents in the state to President Bola Tinubu.
He equally urged residents to continue to exercise understanding with the government as it works toward improving the lives of the people.
