Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has announced plans to reconstruct the Dr. Idris Ibrahim Kuta Primary Healthcare Centre to serve as Nigeria’s first-ever Primary Healthcare Training Centre.

Bago made the announcement during the inauguration of 20 newly constructed Level 2 Primary Healthcare facilities across 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to the Governor, the facility will be fully equipped with modern infrastructure and resources necessary for training health workers at the primary care level. He urged health development partners to support and utilise the centre once completed for capacity-building and knowledge transfer.

The farmer Governor also revealed that the state has procured 100 ambulances and installed solar power systems across all the Level 2 facilities to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

In a bid to strengthen the human resource base of the health sector, the state government is engaging with partners to implement doctor training and exchange programmes, alongside plans to introduce telemedicine services to reduce pressure on secondary healthcare facilities.

Further demonstrating his administration’s commitment to healthcare development, Governor Bago disclosed that a 50-unit housing estate is currently under construction to serve as doctors’ quarters, enhancing the welfare and retention of medical personnel.

The Governor also commissioned a pharmagrade warehouse, a collaborative project between the Federal Government, Niger State Government, and the Global Fund, aimed at improving pharmaceutical storage and distribution within the state.

Governor Bago’s health-focused initiatives form a key component of his “New Niger Agenda,” which places priority on quality, accessible, and sustainable healthcare for all.
