The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on both the federal and state governments to take decisive steps to tackle insecurity and promote unity across the country.
The call was made in an Easter message delivered by the state chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, who expressed concern over the persistent security challenges affecting lives and livelihoods in the state and beyond.
Yohanna noted that insecurity has continued to inflict hardship on citizens, with many communities experiencing loss of lives, displacement, and disruption of farming activities. He urged authorities to intensify efforts aimed at addressing the crisis and alleviating the suffering of affected populations.
According to him, the Easter season, which marks the end of the Lenten period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, serves as a reminder of sacrifice, hope and God’s love for humanity. He stressed that these values should inspire leaders and citizens alike to work towards peace and national cohesion.
The cleric further emphasised the need for unity among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences, as a critical step toward overcoming the country’s security and socio-economic challenges.
He called on citizens to remain steadfast in faith and to promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in their communities.
The CAN chairman also urged the government at all levels to adopt proactive and sustained security strategies that would restore confidence among citizens and enable displaced persons to return to their homes and means of livelihood.
His remarks come amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, particularly in northern regions where attacks have continued to affect rural communities and agricultural activities.
