The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), says the donation of a modern canine facility to the Agency by the German government will significantly enhance Nigeria’s war against illicit drugs.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new complex in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, Marwa described the facility as a milestone in NDLEA’s history.
“May I assure all stakeholders that the provision of this facility will significantly drive our fight against illicit drugs, fulfil our core mandate and secure the future of our nation,” he said, commending Germany’s consistent support to the Agency.
He noted that NDLEA’s sniffer dogs have been instrumental in several high-profile operations, including the seizure of 74.119kg of Captagon at Apapa seaport in 2021 and over 17.9 metric tonnes of narcotics since their deployment.
According to him, the new centre will provide a dignified working environment for the Canine Unit and motivate personnel to sustain operational excellence.
German Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Daniel Krull, said NDLEA’s successes benefit not only Nigeria but also Germany and the wider region. He praised the agency’s leadership and pledged continued cooperation.
Similarly, Mr. Florian Bulow, Deputy Head of Section IZ14 BKA, Berlin, described the NDLEA partnership as one of the longest-running capacity-building projects by the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), stressing that “trust, shared values, and teamwork” have sustained the collaboration.
The facility, sponsored by the German government through the BKA, was constructed between August 2024 and September 2025.
