The Bauchi state chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has called on stakeholders to collaborate towards ending sexual and gender-based violence, SGBV, in the state.
The chairperson, Bulak Afsa made the call in a statement to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Wednesday.
She lamented that figures have shown that the number of victims from the menace had increased exponentially in the state and the country at large.
“NAWOJ Bauchi chapter is worried at the rate of cases concerning sexual violence. We have therefore decided to partner with stakeholders having realized its spread and the need to reach out to citizens.
“We urge all relevant bodies to join hands in ending this menace so that women and girls will fulfill their dreams and exercise their God given talents and roles.
“No society can function effectively without the contribution of women and girls,” she said.
According to her, stakeholders including Ministry of Women Affairs, Human Rights groups, Nigerian Police, CSOs, medical personnel, among others should bring about change regarding sexual violence.
She called on parents, guardians and victims to report offenders immediately for prosecution.
