The Controller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Muhammad Babandede has disclosed that the service had embarked on mega, midi and mini e-border project, with Sokoto as pilot state.

Disclosing this during the commissioning of new Sokoto Command office complex by governor Aminu Tambuwal on Thursday, the Controller said that the initiative would provide sustainable security across the country.

He explained that the e-border project will cover 84 border posts with inbuilt surveillance equipment that will enable coverage of five kilometres radius.

“The posts would have patrol vehicles carrying equipment that can transmit activities online to the National Headquarters.

“This is a great achievement to national security because we can be able to see what is happening at the borders through digital means and to inform other law enforcement agencies to react if the need comes around,” Babandede said.

According to him, the pilot project had commenced Illela border in Sokoto state, adding that 84 other locations would be connected across the country.

The controller commended Sokoto state government for its continued support and assistance to the agency.

Tambuwal applauded Babandede for providing an atmosphere conducive for the staff to work effectively and efficiency.

“I believe with this new complex the productivity of staff will be enhanced and increase revenue not only to the agency but to the country as a whole.

“Your efforts at transforming the service, especially in the area of information and communication technology, which is the order of the day globally, is laudable.

He assured that the state government would continue to support the Service in the discharge of its mandate.

The governor Tambuwal also commended Babandede for using Illela border as e-border pilot scheme.
