Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has commended Dangote Cement Plc for its significant contributions to Nigeria’s economy and called on the company to partner with the government in addressing the country’s housing gap.
Speaking during a tour of the company’s exhibition stand at the ongoing Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja, Dangiwa said Dangote Cement has played a pivotal role in national development, and emphasized the need for the company to extend its impact to the housing sector.
“We recognize Dangote Cement’s pivotal role in our economy and urge them to sustain these efforts. We are already partnering to address Nigeria’s housing challenges through affordable housing initiatives,” the minister said.
He noted that Nigeria faces a severe housing deficit, estimated at over 20 million units, driven by rapid urbanization, population growth, and limited access to affordable housing.
Also speaking during the event was the AIHS Coordinator, Bar. Festus Adebayo, emphasized the role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in bridging the housing gap. He urged private sector players to incorporate housing provision into their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies.
Dangote Cement Plc is a key sponsor of the 19th edition of the Africa International Housing Show, which opened on Monday at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. In a statement, the company said it is not only sponsoring the event but also actively participating in the exhibition.
The statement added that the event, which has drawn participants from 21 countries, provides a unique platform for Dangote Cement to engage with key stakeholders in the housing sector across the continent.
This year’s theme, “Reimagining Housing Through Innovation, Collaboration and Policy”, aligns with the company’s core values, the statement noted.
The company has designated Thursday, July 30, 2025, as its Special Day at the event.
