Less than 48 hours after his discharge and acquittal by a Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna state government has filed fresh charges against the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Justice Gideon Kurada discharged and acquitted Elzakzaky and his wife Zeenat, from the eight count charges filed against them by the state government for lack of merit on Wednesday.
The state government however, filed fresh seven charges against the IMN leader at the Federal High Court, reports say.
The fresh charges
According to the state Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mr Daris Bayero, the charges border on terrorism and treasonable felony against the state and federal government.
The state government says will rely on the fresh charges, which it said date back to 2015, to impress on the court to issue an order for the rearrest of Elzakzaky.
The annulled charges
Recall that the duo has been standing trial for the past four years on eight counts charges of culpable homicide, disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly among others.
